Mentira Mentira — Obsidian Commerce

Reframing an underground fashion storefront as a cinematic archive while restoring native, sales-critical product mechanics.

Context

The assignment

The store already had a strong monochrome identity, but custom product interactions were drifting away from dependable commerce. The work became an exercise in editing: preserve the atmosphere, remove theatrical friction, and let native Shopify behavior carry the transaction.

Selected decisions

01

Native where it matters

Product selection, gallery behavior, variants, and cart actions returned to Shopify’s proven primitives. Custom expression stayed around them, not inside them.

02

Background media, foreground clarity

Autoplay media was treated as atmosphere: muted, inline, recoverable, and always subordinate to readable product information.

03

One visual grammar

ASCII fragments, scanlines, one-pixel rules, and editorial spacing were consolidated across the homepage and collection system.

Outcome

A fashion storefront where the visual language survives without compromising the buying flow.
